Thuc Doan Nguyen works for Seventy Seven Films, a production company committed to telling the important and emotional stories of the world. The company recently gained interest in incorporating VR into their storytelling. Nguyen herself is working on brokering deals with record labels to create VR music videos. She also does some of the writing for the company’s films, which they hope to incorporate VR into soon.
What made you interested in VR? Seeing it filmed on my street in LA- the rig was amazing. Also that Bjork music video for the track “Stonemilker” by Andrew Huang.
What was your most memorable experience in VR? Don’t want to name one yet- check back in a year- it will evolve so much. Would like to have more experiences- think they’re just going to get richer and more immersive.
What kind of experiences would you like to have in VR? I’d like to see more travelogues and more from non-human points of view too- from that of animals!
Why is it important for women to be included in the industry? My goodness- women are so cut out of the regular Hollywood narratives- the numbers are appalling. VR has a real chance to change this. How women are shown in media directly translates to attitudes about us in reel life, so I totally believe in #filminclusion.
How do you imagine VR changing your area of expertise– journalism and music videos? Back when newsreels wowed people by being so realistic, VR can show people how human subjects, live, fight, struggle, survive. In music videos, having the experience of the musicians or being at a live show will change the relationship between performers and fans even more
